July 10 , 2008
Sorry to be so long in writing the letter, but I was waiting on some final figures to come in.
We’ve had another record breaking year so far as the Premium Sale is concerned with a final figure of about $246,000.00. That’s wonderful! I’ve said it many times before, but let me say it again: “Those kids are what it’s all about and what we’re all about!”. Old buyers returned and new buyers participated! It doesn’t make a lot of difference if you were a buyer or a bidder – you contributed to the success of the 2008 Premium Sale and you are sincerely appreciated.
The final figures are still not in on the Rodeo (we’re still paying bills), but it looks like we’ve scored another home run there. As usual, Scotty Lovelace and Classic Pro Rodeo put on another fast paced and truly professional PRCA Rodeo. The new specialty act was hilarious! We appreciated the fact that Rocky Robbins also utilized some local talent in the Samurai (that may not be spelled right) Wrestling Contest. If you missed that – it’s truly your loss! ha
Once again, volunteers came forth and saved our bacon on numerous occasions! I don’t know what we would do without you guys and gals. “Thanks’ never seems like enough, but please know that it comes with our sincere feelings and deepest appreciation.
Back to the Premium Sale! The tremendous success of that event enables a lot of our young people to participate in future fairs in Crosby and in other locations. For our Seniors, you’ve assisted them in the continuation of their education and enabled them to make a place for themselves in this fast-paced World that we all face today. Speaking of Seniors: Gary ‘Strawberry’ Clifton and I had the honor and privilege of presenting five (5) $3,000.00 scholarships to five (5) beautiful and deserving young ladies in early June on behalf of Crosby Fair & Rodeo. One of those young ladies, Katie Stephens also applied for and was recipient of a Scholarship from the Texas Association of Fairs and Events. Doug Hall and I were privileged to be asked to write letters of recommendation for Katie.
I’d love to be able to name each and every individual that assisted in making 2008 a tremendous year for the Youth of Crosby and for Crosby Fair and Rodeo, but I’d just make a fool of myself in that attempt. Just know that your efforts and assistance are sincerely appreciated.
One other thing that I wanted to mention was the fact that the Crosby Community as a whole, supported this year’s Fair and Rodeo more than I can ever remember! Individuals and businesses painted their windows, distributed flyers, allowed us to put posters in their windows and participated in so many ways. Tim Meadows did an excellent job of putting the parade together and promoting the participation of various businesses throughout the community.
All of you please accept a sincere “Thank You” from your Board of Directors at Crosby Fair & Rodeo.
Sincerely,
Russell Rogers, President
