The Crosby Fair & Rodeo Inc. started when a group of local cowboys formed the Crosby Roping Club in 1947. Wanting to do more than just have a rodeo, in 1951 the club approached Crosby High School’s agriculture teacher about adding a livestock show to their annual competition. The fair was such a success that a group of local business people formed the Crosby FFA Community Fair Association. When the Crosby Roping Club disbanded in 1955, The Fair Association assumed the responsibility for the rodeo as well, consolidating the two into an event that was the true forerunner of what you see today.
Since the show began, thousands of young people have benefited through their involvement in raising and preparing projects for exhibit and sale in the Livestock Auction at the Crosby Fair & Rodeo. Through their participation in show competition, our youth have learned how to “win with humility and lose with dignity”. They have learned responsibility and camaraderie in a manner that is impossible to teach in a classroom. The show ring has provided a wholesome setting for young people to achieve their goals, thus building confidence and strengthening the character of our youth. By providing a positive youth development experience, the show has helped in the development of productive adults who are contributing members of our society.
The Crosby Fair & Rodeo, together with the organizations it represents, provides a positive environment for participants to exhibit projects and compete on an equal level. Exhibitors have the opportunity to raise or make projects for the Fair. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to do his best to achieve a top quality project. Through responsibility, exhibitors are given the opportunity to receive awards on their projects in the Livestock Auction.
All buyers are given recognition at the Auction and will receive a buyer’s cap or visor, an invitation to the buyers dinner and a Crosby Fair & Rodeo Auction Plaque that will display your picture, as a buyer, with the exhibitor and the item you bought.
Your contribution is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. In some cases your contribution is limited to the amount of money paid over the value of the goods received. Please consult your tax advisor regarding your particular situation.
This is something that can be determined only by you and you alone. Ask yourselves if you and your family may have benefited by the type individuals that may have been produced from such programs as described above.
The “How Much” is entirely up to you! You may choose not to purchase at all and just participate in the sale as a ‘bidder’. That is a tremendous help in obtaining the maximum possible amount for the youth. You should certainly be prepared to ‘catch’ an item in the event that you are the high bidder.
Any member of the CF&R Board of Directors will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have at any time.
You may also choose not to purchase during the sale, but purchase from a young person who ‘didn’t make the sale’ and has livestock ‘under the barn’. Ask any member of the CF&R Board of Directors just how and when to exercise this option.
You may make your purchase as an individual, company, part of a group, and with a friend or partner.
Please make sure that your wishes are known and understood by the sale officials who are trying desperately to see that each individual exhibitor is paid every dime that his/her project is bringing and that you pay only your fair share of the split.
Any buyer may choose to; (1) Keep the item purchased, (2) Donate the item to a charitable organization of his/her choice. Regardless of the decision made, it is the responsibility of the Buyer to again make sure that his wishes are known to the sale officials. Should the buyer decide to have the item processed by a qualified processor, it is his/her responsibility to determine who that processor shall be and again notify sale officials. CF&R personnel, along with the exhibitor will see that the item is loaded onto the correct transportation vehicle at the appropriate time.
Just remember: YOU SET THE DOLLAR AMOUNT!
You should also be reminded that you do not have to personally attend the auction. You are welcome to send an authorized representative to act in your place. It is imperative that we have ALL required information on the Buyer Information Sheet. We must know who to contact, where to contact them and how to contact them in case that becomes necessary.
The Livestock Auction will begin at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2012, preceded by a Buyer’s Dinner and Reception, which begins at 4:00 p.m. Everything takes place under the office pavilion at the CF&R Fairgrounds in Crosby. We, the volunteers of the Crosby Fair & Rodeo and all Youth Exhibitors, hope to see you there!
